This book comes in two parts. The first part updates “Building
Family Friendly Churches” and develops further Mike’s vision of an
inclusive church.
Here it explores three areas:
Models: There
are different ideas for structuring a main act of worship. This section
then explores a number of ideas and cites examples from churches which
have implemented them.
Welcome:
Clearly the way visitors and guests are welcomed at the door can have a
real impact, but this section also spends time exploring how the right
mood, atmosphere and style can also be an integral part of the welcome
that a church offers to visitors..
Worship: This
chapter looks at the leadership of worship and offers a range of ideas
and resources that could be used in inclusive worship.
The 2nd part then looks at how to implement change in a church. Mike
has researched best practice of change in the commercial world and then
applies it to churches.

If this is not done then there could easily be serious problems further
down the line and future changes could be stalled.”
Rather than imposing change on a congregation
the guidelines offer a methodology that initially creates a desire for
change. A Guiding Coalition is then built that creates a vision for
change. There is a lot of important help offered in communicating that
vision to everyone.
Other chapters look at removing blockages to change and freeing
congregations to make decisions independently towards the change
vision. There is also advice on how to deal with opposition and
setbacks.
